TREASURE ISLAND – In a surprise move Feb. 7, sponsor Bill Edwards pulled the rug out from funding a sand-sculpting event planned for the week of the Republican National Convention.

MADEIRA BEACH – Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a black man on a bicycle wanted in connection with a stabbing Wednesday afternoon in an alleyway near Duhme Road and the Tom Stuart Causeway in Madeira Beach.


MADEIRA BEACH – Nearly a year after former city manager W.D. Higginbotham was terminated by the City Commission, Maderia Beach has a new chief executive.


REDINGTON SHORES – The Redington Shores Board of Commissioners plans to take action to deal with what was described as a growing problem with skateboarders. The issue was addressed at the Commission’s Jan. 25 workshop meeting.


REDINGTON SHORES – The lease is complete and construction is expected to begin soon on the $5 million Secrets of the Sea Marine Exploration Center at John’s Pass Village in Madeira Beach.


MADEIRA BEACH – Newly installed City Manager Shane Crawford wasted little time in fulfilling a promise to “turn this place around in short order.”
